PINAP

PINAP stands for the Post-It Note Art Posse, a huge community art project where any artist, at any level, can take part and contribute towards a great collage and help raise much needed funds for the NSPCC. All types of art are welcome, ranging from abstract to traditional and doodles to stencils. The only real condition is that all submitted pieces of art have to be done on a post-it note (any size, type, brand, colour or shape).

Adrian Wallett, the founder of PINAP is trying to bring art together from all walks of life and help create a memorable collage which unites art and will help raise awareness and funds for the NSPCC. Over twenty artists have taken part so far but there is room for a lot more to really make this project as big and bold as possible.

For more information of PINAP and to see what other fellow artists have contributed please visit the PINAP Flickr Group at www.flickr.com/groups/PINAP.

Anyone and everyone is invited to take part in this growing community art project. Simply draw, paint, doodle or do anything to a Post-It Note sheet and post to:

Adrian Wallett,

45 Warbank Crescent,

New Addington,

Croydon,

Surrey CR0 0AY.

Your welcomed post-it note art will be used to create a giant collage that will eventually be auctioned off for charity.

National Night Out

I think this is an absolutely brilliant idea:

Tuesday August 7 is National Night Out, a red-letter day in thousands of towns and cities around the country. Up to 30 million people will take to the streets and parks, with no one calling the cops. Indeed, local police departments organize these block parties, cook-outs, and music events as a practical method to fight crime. The idea is that communities are safer when neighbors get to know one another and work together on solving problems.

Of course it doesn’t have to be national – neighbourhoods suffering from problems of anti-social behaviour would achieve much more by going out and taking over the spaces previously occupied by vandals and yobs than by hiding away at home and asking for more ASBOs and police patrols.

Communities can't maintain themselves if they see the police as an occupying army keeping the barbarians at bay.  Community begins and ends with the people in it.

Try it out – you don’t have to do anything more than go for a walk!

Chichester Open Art Festival

One problem with this one however -"The exhibition will be of paintings, drawings and prints. All 2-dimensional work will be acceptable, with the exception of photographic prints and reproductions."

They obviously don't recognise photographic prints as being originals - a bit of education needed perhaps?

Art Fairs UK

Building on the previous post on this topic, I have now set up a Ning Network to talk about some of the issues that might be involved in getting such a venture going. At the moment it is closed and has only one member - me. However, if you are in the UK and seriously interested in developing ways to sell your art or photography, then contact me here and I will send you an invitation.

I have in mind two options

  • the Art Fairs could themselves be a viable business with an income built on fees for participation, from commercial sales stands etc
  • they could be a coop with the main aim being to provide a venue at which coop members could sell.

These are not mutually exclusive of course.

However, until the basic concept is ironed out I don't want to make public information that might later be commercially sensitive. That sounds rather grandiose I know, but once a few people have signed up, we can take a decision about going fully public.

I've started putting together a preliminary list of fairs in the UK.

The Bayswater Road in London would be be a good model for what I have in mind, as would the People's Photography event in Dublin. Prom Art in Grange over Sands I didn't know about - this looks a fun event.

Armstrong Bridge in Newcastle has been going for a while - I remember when it started so I'm pleased to see it still going strong.

Cluny - an art market in a pub!

A link to various other art and craft markets etc. on Tyneside

A Guardian article on Market Trading is also interesting.

If you know of any art markets of this type in the UK please let me know, so that I can build it into a more structured list.
