Remixing the London police's anti-photographer terrror posters

fascism, originally uploaded by illegalphotos.

Responding to the London Metropolitan Police's new anti-photographer snitch campaign, wherein posters urge Londoners to turn in people who might be taking pictures of CCTV cameras, many people have taken a crack at redesigning the posters to point out the absurdity of them.

Funny stories

When I make a joke, it doesn't harm anyone; you can take it or leave it. But when Congress makes a joke, it's a law.

Will Rogers (attrib)

...and in the same vein:-

Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for.

There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you.

This country has come to feel the same when Congress is in session as when the baby gets hold of a hammer.

[Idiotic] Quote of the Day Decade

[‘Renewable resources’] are not renewable… Taking energy from winds and tides irreversibly enervates the weather system and slows the rotation of the Earth

Nice one Bill...

You may have heard of Ann Coulter - if not google it. Once you have done that you will understand why this  - for me anyway - is so funny...

15 Things Kurt Vonnegut Said Better Than Anyone Else Ever Has Or Will | The A.V. Club

Number 7.

"There are plenty of good reasons for fighting, but no good reason ever to hate without reservation, to imagine that God Almighty Himself hates with you, too."

Though this quote comes from the World War II-centered Mother Night (published in 1961), its wisdom and ugly truth still ring. Vonnegut (who often said "The only difference between Bush and Hitler is that Hitler was elected") was righteously skeptical about war, having famously survived the only one worth fighting in his lifetime. And it's never been more true: Left or right, Christian or Muslim, those convinced they're doing violence in service of a higher power and against an irretrievably inhuman enemy are the most dangerous creatures of all.

Who needs a wastepaper basket?

From virtual philosopher.

...the Vice Chancellor was intent on closing down a department to save money. It came down to a choice between Mathematics and Philosophy. The mathematicians thought they had a winning case: all they needed for their research was some coffee, a table, some pencils, and a wastepaper basket. But the philosophers undercut them: they didn't need the wastepaper basket.

Cliche?

A review of Romeo and Juliet found by Charlie Stross.

Son of Sammy wrote: "i just read this book. everybody like always talks about how great it is and everything. but i don't think so. like, it's been done before, right?? soooo cliched. omg."

From the discussion there appears to be some doubt that this is genuine, but unfortunately it rings all too true.

I don't believe it either...

You Are a "Don't Tread On Me" Libertarian
You distrust the government, are fiercely independent, and don't belong in either party.
Religion and politics should never mix, in your opinion... and you feel opressed by both.
You don't want the government to cramp your self made style. Or anyone else's for that matter.
You're proud to say that you're pro-choice on absolutely everything!
What's Your Political Persuasion?

I think this finally demonstrates these quizzes are nonsense...
