Many people will no doubt have given to one or other collections for humanitarian aid to victims of the Tsunami. However, long-term support for development will also be needed over the next few years. One charity that does this is the Intermediate Technology Development Group.
ITDG has a unique approach to development – we don't start with technology, but with people. The tools may be simple or sophisticated – but to provide long-term, appropriate and practical answers, they must be firmly in the hands of local people: people who shape technology and control it for themselves.
Anyone involved with community planning will recognise that approach!
